[NAME], I’m okay with anyone trying to negotiate my fee before I’ve provided a service, because then a choice can be made. But you knew the fee upfront and I won’t change it now. It’s a matter of principle that I hope you can respect.

No [NAME], I was upfront about what I do and for how much, and we both have the fee agreement to prove it. So do you want to call the candidate and tell him that the deal is off because you changed your mind about the fee, or would you prefer me to do it?
